Problem is you went to the wrong shop. These big companies (Suzi, Harley, etc....) make up rules that force you to buy their products (partly their fault, partly the Bar Assoc for allowing its members to conduct frivolous lawsuits). You need to find and independent shop (usually custom-Harley oriented) that will work on metric bikes- sometimes hard to find..... But you should be able to go in and BS with the mechanics and develop some rapport. I've found that most of the independant shops are suspicious of metric stuff, but will help you out once you get to know them.
